Time flies...

I love when I get a chance to see the growth in little ones. Last year, I had the opportunity to photograph Nautica when she was only 3 months old. At that time, Nautica slept through most of her photo session. Fast forward to earlier this week...I met up with Nautica and her family again. This time, she is 1 year old and walking, playing, running, climbing and saying, dada!! She would not give me any smiles, but gave Mom and Dad big smiles!

There was an added surprise to this session...Nautica is going to be a big sister and I was able to get a few maternity pics of her beautiful mom!

I am so blessed to have a WONDERFUL, CARING, KIND, SUPPORTIVE, LOVING, (I could go on and on) MOTHER! She is very instrumental in shaping me to become the person I am today. We live miles away from each other, but the daily phone calls,(sometimes 3 or 4 calls a day) brings us closer together. It helps to fill the gap between visits. I LOVE her dearly and wish her the best day today and every other day! THANKS MOM!

During my visit to Nashville a couple of weeks ago, I was able to snap a picture of her.

Speaking of my visit to Nashville....during the time I was there, my mom and I went to the nursing home to visit Memaw! I was so happy to see her and we had the best time remembering times in the past. We talked and laughed and laughed and laughed. At age 96, she still has tons of spunk ,wit, LOVE and laughter!!! Of course I had to sneak a pic....

My cousin planned my visit to Nashville because she wanted to get my grandmother and her siblings together and wanted others to share in that fellowship. We had a great time just sharing stories, laughing, and eating.

IT AIN'T EASY...

One of the toughest jobs I have as a photographer is getting pictures of my family! Tre says, "no", unless the bribe is worth it. Beth, never has time. She always seems to be on the go, even when she is at my house visiting. Melvin, he is probably the most willing of them all. Nicholas...it's like pulling teeth! I just wanted ONE picture of him in his Easter suit...JUST ONE!

I thought for sure this would be easy because I had a great bribe - the Easter Basket! Yes, I would stoop so low as to withhold the Easter basket until I got ONE picture. I get my backdrop stand set up, my camera is ready and the Easter basket is right by my side...not to be opened until I get my ONE picture!

So this is how my photo shoot with Nicholas went:

Me: Come on Nicholas you can open your Easter basket after Nana gets ONE picture.
Nicholas: okay
Me: Stand right here and Nana is going to take a picture of you.
Nicholas: I want a Easter basket.
Me. Okay, but let's take the picture first.
Nicholas: Okay
Me: Look right here at Nana.
Nicholas: cheeeessseee
Me: no, don't say cheeeesseee, just look at Nana
Nicholas: he looks down, instead of at me!
Me: Okay Nicholas...Nana has a BIIIGGG basket for you, but you have to take one picture
NIcholas: I don't want a Easter basket...then he gives me that sneaky grin(picture bottom right)!

Me: I had to do something, the Easter basket was my Saving Grace! If he didn't want the Easter basket I would never get him to take a picture. So I said, Look, you want play with the coloring book that's in the basket!
Nicholas: Starts to fake a cry and wiping his eyes! I want my Mommie!
Me: Okay, as soon as you take a picture we will go get your Mommie! But if you don't take I picture, I'm going to get you (I tickle his tummy). I get a laugh, but again his eyes are closed. Okay, one more!
Nicholas: Nooooo, I not want a picture! I need tissue (as he is playing in his nose)!
Me: Oh Nicholas, let's go in and wash your hands!

After much begging, pleading, and bribing. I finally get two pictures that I can work with!

On Saturday I met up with Tevin to take his senior pictures. Based on the weather channel forecast, we were to have have a beautiful sunny day! Instead, we had a partly cloudy, rather windy, a little chilly to me and RAIN! Fortunately, the rain came at the end of our session! But none of that matter to Tevin...he was quite the model!

Tevin will be graduating next month from Warren Central High School...here are some other interesting facts about Tevin:

Favorite Song - He doesn't have just one...he likes all genres.
College Choice - He's narrowed his picks down to two, Tennessee State University(in my hometown-Nashville, TN) and Indiana State.

I am so blessed to be able to meet fun and loving couples. I have known Patty for a few years and now I feel as though I have known Kevin for just as long! The one thing that is evident is how much Kevin loves and adores Patty! Patty and Kevin are engaged to get married in August. While I am not their wedding photographer (sorry Patty), I was able to spend time with them and capture some engagement pictures for them. Here are a few picture from our session...

I walk into the house and Mr. TJ was awoke. Mom fed him and out he went. AND, he was out the entire time I was there. It doesn't get any easier than this! I was able to lift him, turn him and even move him and still did not wake up. The little 5 pounder was pure SWEETNESS!!!

...I LOVE him and he let me take these pictures!!! Yep, Nicholas actually sat still for 1.2 seconds to let me take pictures of him! I actually have several more, but I figure you didn't want to see the back of his head, the ones with his eyes closed or the one where he had his face buried in the grass!!

Newborn photo sessions usually take about 2-3 hours to complete! I usually spend only 30 minutes to an hour of actually snapping pictures! The reminder of the time is spent feeding, rocking, and changing diapers (or clothes..baby and mine) if I happened to get a treat too!!

My session on Saturday was with little Miss S was no different!!! The session lasted about 3 hours. She ate, she was rocked, she got her clothes changed(she spared me) and I snapped pictures for about total of 30-45 minutes. Miss S. was so sweet throughout the whole process!

Happy New Year!!!

I know...it's been awhile since I have posted on my blog, but I'm BACK! Exciting things are happening for me and my photography venture and I will be sharing them with you!

First, I must share with you the new addition to the Lewis family! Nicholas has a puppy and he absolutely loves her! I thought for sure he would be afraid of her, but that's not the case. Meet PRINCESS(named by Nicholas)!

Miss B came to visit me all the way from Mississippi! Well, she didn't come just to see me...BUT! But, while she was here she came to see me and I took the opportunity to take some Christmas pictures for her mom. Beautiful blue water, ocean breeze, great food and drinks, and carefree days, those are some of the things Melvin and I enjoyed while vacationing in Jamaica. We were really sad when it was time to leave, but we knew we had to get back home to family, friends and a photoshoot!

On Saturday, I had my first maternity photoshoot! Holly, thank you so much for allowing me to capture pictures of you during this beautiful time in your life. I can't wait to meet your little guy once he enters this world. I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

On Saturday, Nicholas had some of his friends over for a Halloween Party! They played ghost bowling, pass the pumpkin, Halloween treat hunt(think Easter egg hunt, but instead you hunt for bags of candy hidden in the back yard) and there was a cupcake decorating station!! The best part for me was taking pictues of the little ones. They came dressed in their Halloween costumes and I was surrounded by CUTENESS!!! Little ducks and pumpkins were just adorable as were the princess, the clown and even the pirate!

Here's an earlier picture of Nicholas in his costume. I didn't get any picutes yesterday because he only lasted about 10 minutes in his costume!!!

I was given the opportunity to meet Chelsi last week. We spent a few hours together because even at 13 days old, Chelsi is already showing everyone who's the boss. The minute Chelsi was placed on the blanket to start her photoshoot, she would wake up! But, I am a pro at the waiting game, and I knew eventually she would fall asleep and I would win, and that is exactly what happened.

Last weekend, we bought Nicholas an automatic baseball/tball game. He was so excited to play with it, we couldn't get the batteries in it fast enough, so he played with it as a tball. He couldn't wait to show us...HE HAS GAME!

He has the basics...he knows exactly how to hold the bat, he knows to keep your eye on the ball, and he knows you keep swinging until you hit the ball. No such thing as 3 strikes and you are out! When he did finally hit the ball, you would have thought he hit a home run...the crowd (me and PawPaw, his mom and dad) went wild with applauses!!!

Sophomore Year...

I knew this day was coming, but I didn't expect it to happen so soon.

This past weekend, Tre left to go back to college. It was such a joy to have him around all summer. Oftentimes, I would go into his room and find him either SLEEPING, listening to music, watching tv, SLEEPING, on the computer, on the phone, did I mention SLEEPING...nevertheless, he was there and I was glad to know he was safe and at home. Sometimes, I would go into his room to talk to him about nothing in particular, but anything that came to mind. It could have been something as insufficient as a sock on the floor or something as indepth as his outlook on life, alot of times it was about Nicholas because you could see evidence that he had been there!!! The fact of the matter is, we just spent time together-talking!

I knew the day would come that he would have to return to school, but I didn't expect it come so soon! It was such a joy to have him around all summer.

Tre, have a great school year...I LOVE you so much!!

On Saturday, I met up with the Vance family for a photo shoot. At my last photo session, Tre was my assistant but this time Melvin decided he would go with me. Second to my lovely niece, the other member of my brother's family that was willing to allow me to take their picture was Joy! Joy captured all of our attention during our visit. We would have loved to take her back to Indy, but there was one little exception...Nicholas!! Nicholas loved Joy from a distant, but the minute she was in his eyesight he was climbing on the highest, tallest thing.

Before I post the other pics from our 4th in the East, I have to take a moment to share with you my last session. On Sunday, I had the opportunity to spend some time with Little Miss Nautica. I had several ideas of the pictures I wanted to take of Nautica, but she didn't want any part of it. But, that was okay, we just incorporated Mom and Dad into pictures. This turned out to be one of my favorite sessions!!!

I am so excited about the next several posts I will be posting!!! My sweet, sweet niece called me in May and asked if we would come visit them. After talking it over with Melvin, we decided we would take a road trip over the 4th of July weekend to Virginia/DC...PERFECT! Of course, one of the first things that came to my mind was PHOTO SHOOT...different places and fresh faces!!! No mumbling and grumbling(Tre), no running away(Nicholas), and we get to spend time with family. To say I was excited is an understatement.

My sister in law's niece and her family came over, so of course I took a couple of snaps of them and here are the results!!

You may remember Jalen from my post a couple of weeks ago, but this is Kylie's first appearance on my blog, but hopefully not her last. She was very comfortable in front of the camera and my camera loved her...really LOVED her!! I could have snapped pics of her all day!

Her little cousin on the other hand had his own agenda!!! He is more into climbing, walking(yes, he has started walking since our last session) and putting anything he can find in his mouth. Those are all the signs of a BUSY little boy!!! During the times he slowed down just a little, I was able to capture some cute pictures of him, which makes it all worthwhile!!!

Air Show

A couple of weeks ago, we went out to see the Indianapolis Air Show. It's always exciting for me to see how the pilots maneuver those planes. But this year I had an alternative motive. I just got my 70-200 lens and I wanted to take it on a test drive!! Also, I have never taken pictures like this, so it was a new challenge for me.

Today marks the 1 year anniversary for my blog and what a year it has been!!! I would like to thank all of you that have followed my journey during the past year. Your emails and well wishes have truly inspired and motivated me to keep at this passion. Bigger and better things are in store for this next year, starting with updates to my blog!!!

To celebrate my anniversary, I decided to get in front of the camera...so here are some pictures of me taken by Tre!! He told me I would be violating copyright laws if didn't acknowledge that he took these pictures, a threat to sue came after that!!!

Nicholas Pt. 1

I know, I know...it's been awhile since I posted a picture of Nicholas. But if you recall, he runs when he sees me with my camera or he literally says, NO NANA!!! Well, the next 2 blog entries will be pics of Nicholas.

Let see...what has Nicholas been up to? He is getting into everything and talking, talking, talking. Oh yeah, he no longer sucks a binkie!!! He is really big into balls and calls a football a soccer ball, regardless of the number of times you tell him it's a football. He LOVES to sing and dance and knows the words to most of the songs his CDs. It is the CUTEST thing to hear him sing and watch him dance!!!

Since Tre is home for summer break, he is all over him. He doesn't want Tre out of his sight. The other day, I talked Tre into going with me to take pictures of Nicholas. I just knew Nicholas would cooperate, especially since Tre was with me. Well...wishful thinking on my part! I still got the same types of pictures I always get...blurred, Nicholas backside, Nicholas running away, you get the point.

But I did manage to get the series of pictures below...my attempt at Nicholas blowing a dandelion.

College Freshman...

Tre survived his first year of college and is home for summer break. His freshman year went very well and I am so very proud of him!!! There were only a few bumps in the road, but nothing we couldn't talk about and overcome!

Here's an overview of Tre's freshman year...

1. Tre did not do any laundry while as school. He did all his laundry when he came home.

2. I had to call Tre at 6:00 AM to talk to him and remind him to call his parents sometimes.

3. I received more text messages from Tre than phone calls.

4. Our garage door went up and down three times as much the weekends Tre came home.

5. I missed him so much.

6. Tre still doesn't like for me to take his picture!!!

But I did get one picture...

True Colors

One of my assignments for a photography class I am taking was to go out and take pictures of colors. The color had to fill the frame and no more than two or three colors could be in the picture. I went out one day and look everywhere but I didn't see anything with color that I wanted to take a picture of. Yeah, I saw the green grass and the red and white stop sign, but that didn't inspire me/motivate me. I couldn't find ANYTHING! So, I packed up my camera and went home. Not to be defeated, I went out the next day and again, I saw the same green grass, and that same red and white stop sign and again I packed up my gear and headed home. But this time, as I took my normal route, I passed a construction site and saw...

But it didn't stop there. Melvin and I went to store and I took my camera in with me...and color was everywhere. Look....

Right outside my front door, I saw this...

Color is everywhere, you just have to take the time to see it.

This will be a 15-20 minute session and each mom will get an 8x10 tile for a small fee...other prints will be available as well. I tested it this year and here are pics from my sessions.

On Saturday, I spent part of my evening taking pictures of another 2009 graduate. I am loving senior sessions more and more!! The seniors I have had so far have all been fun and energetic!!! From the moment I said, "let's get started", Jasmine was on her poses. She would turn to the left, tilt her head to the right, give me a smile, as well as give me her serious look, all while I was trying to get my settings together for a test shot!!! And when it comes to clothing, Jasmine had that covered too...she had no less than 4, maybe five outfit changes. Jasmine is definitely in a CLASS of her own!!!

Awwww...I had another newborn session yesterday, and this little 5 day old was alert for most of the session. He slept for about 10 minutes, but that didn't matter. I was still able to get some cute pictures of him.

I have really enjoyed the recent high school senior sessions I have had, and my session on Saturday was no disappointment. I had the opportunity to meet up with Dominique and his mom to take his senior pictures. Early part of the day Saturday, while I was preparing for my session, I had flashbacks of my sessions with Tre last year. Yes, I tried several times to take Tre out to get decent pictures of him, but each time he made it more and more challenging. Sit up Tre, look this way, put your phone away, a few more..LET'S GO!! That's how each session with him went, but that wasn't the case with Dominque. He was so cooporative and willing to try anything.

Van Halen?

Do you remember the famous Van Halen song, JUMP? Of course you do, how could you not...it was the theme song for just about every professional and non professional sporting event, as well as other events. As soon as the first notes were played, kids and adults of all ages would stand to their feet and JUMP, sing or bob their heads. How could you not...I'm bobbing my head now just thinking of the song!

On Friday, I had the pleasure of meeting Halen, no not Van Halen. Although this little Halen has the potential to be just as great as Van Halen....it's in her blood. You see, her father is a great guitar player and if she takes after him she is well on her way.

Happy Easter....Belated!

Yeah, I know Easter was yesterday, but that doesn't keep me from wishing you Happy Easter! Easter is one of my favorite holidays. It always brings about a time of renewing. A time of hope. A time of sacrifice.

A couple of weeks ago, I spent time with Ms. Laryn. If you want to meet a fun, crazy, wild, entertaining young lady, then you need to meet Laryn! She has everything going for her: beauty, smarts, great personality, EVERYTHING. I tell you, if she were my daughter I would lock her in a closet and only let her out to use the bathroom! But isn't that what being a teenager is all about...a time of laughter. A time of fun. A time of excitement!!

Money, Money, Money...

There is something about those gummy smiles, slob dripping down chin and coos that win me over every time. It melts my heart each time I can get a sweet little baby in front of my camera, and my session with Truth didn't disappoint.

I was praying that one of those gummy smiles picture, slob dripping down chin picture, or one where she was cooing would be "THE Shot". You know, the shot that as soon as you click the shutter button that's the one you like best. The one that if you don't get another picture, getting that one is worth it all. I got the money shot with Truth, but I also got one with another member of their family. But this money shot was different. Different because I was scared to death taking this picture and if I got one picture that was in focus it was going the be the "money shot", no the MONEY, MONEY, MONEY SHOT!!!!

The Right Time!

It all about cell phones,texting, music and videos, and definitely clothes, with young kids these days. And Reagan was on top of all those things and more. More importantly, she was on top of what to do at a photo shoot. Last weekend I had the pleasure of spending time with the Bingham twins. I wish I could have packed them up and taken them home with me, but Mom and Grandmom were not having it.

Birthday Party...

On Saturday, February 21, the birthday boy had his birthday party. Boy, did he enjoy himself. He ran, he jumped, he climbed, he slide, he had a BLAST!!! His party was held at a fairly new venue to Indianpolis called SNAPPERZ. Snapperz is a bouncehouse, with activities for all ages. I think Nicholas' favorite part was the big slide and playing the duck game, not to mentioned having family and friends there to share in the fun!

The weather here in Indiana has been brutal. Just a week or so ago, we were hit with 12" of snow. Prior to that, the temp dropped to below 0, with a wind chill of -12. I listened to the weather report tonight, only to find out we maybe get some more snow within the next couple of days. My first reaction was AGAIN!

Earlier this month, Kristen and I spoke about me taking her family pictures. I had the pleasure of taking Kameron, her son's picture last year, and I was honored to be asked to take his picture AGAIN!!!

Over the Christmas holiday, I spent alot of time reading and practicing taking pictures of my family members. I was glad to finally have a chance to apply the information I read and my family was glad to finally get me out of their faces with my camera!

Going to a card store or the greeting card aisle can be an all day affair for me. I get so caught up in the wording that the writers from Hallmark, American Greeting, and other card companies write, that it's hard for me to choose a card. My goal is to find a birthday card, a get well card, a thank you card, or some other special occasion card that really says something special or meaningful to the person I am sending it to. One would think this should be an easy task, but it's not!! Not only does the wording have to be right, the picture, drawing or whatever is on the front/inside has to be perfect as well. Sometimes this task gets so overwhelming that after hours of looking, I leave the store with nothing. So if I missed sending you a greeting card, it could be because I couldn't find that perfect one for you!!!

On Monday, our family received a card in the mail. It wasn't a card made by one of the well known card companies, nor was it a mass produced card. It was a card handmade for my family by my niece McKenzie, with some help from my sister-in-law, Linda. It's a card that had I seen in the store I would have definitely purchased. The artwork on the front of the card was pretty and colorful and the wording meaningful and it spoke to me-it simply stated.... GIVE THANKS!

Get-Together!!!

We laughed, we talked, we shared stories, we ate(of course), we did all the things ladies do when we get together. Its been several years since we have gotten together as a group, so we had lots of catching up to do. But how could that be...I see most of these ladies every week. No, this wasn't a get-together with my girlfriends. This wasn't a family reunion or a class reunion. This was fellowship with ladies from church! Ladies that some I have known for the 8 years I have lived in Indianapolis and some just a few years. But, you wouldn't be able to tell.

I am truly blessed to have these ladies that are so supportive and loving and that has welcomed me and my family into their lives, in my life.

Of course, I had to bring out my camera. So, before we parted, everyone had a mini photo shoot!!!

Marleigh - quiet, soft-spoken, and Oh, so pretty! Porter - content, happy and quite the ham! I had the pleasure of photographing Marleigh and her little brother Porter before my vacation to Mexico. I knew if I had started editing these pictures I would have not gotten my things together for my trip...and my husband would have been quite perturbed. So, I had to wait until my return to start on these. And boy was it worth the wait...take a look at what I mean!

Wow! As I logged into my blog to post a new entry, I couldn't remember the code to upload pictures, where to go to edit files, or how to make pictures larger. It felt as though I was stepping into uncharted territory! But, I quickly became familiar with my surroundings as I navigated, clicked, and unclicked, through this post. If you ask Kameron what he likes he will tell you football, basketball, riding his bicycle and Playstation 2. After spending a couple of hours with Kameron, I will tell you he likes(I mean loves) to talk, turn flips, ask lots of questions and just being a kid!!! So being a kid is what we did. We ran, we skipped, we turned flips(yes I did), we discussed the childhood story, "The boy that Cried Wolf" and oh yeah, I took pictures of Kameron.

Yesterday, Kameron, his mom and I ventured downtown Indy for his photo shoot. Here's a sneak peek at a few of his pictures.

Today is Faith's 3rd birthday. This past Sunday I spent some time with her taking pictures. We met at the Indiana Museum of Arts(IMA), becuase Faith loves the water fountains. But, when Faith got there she noticed the fountains were shut off. But that didn't stop Faith...she told her Ge-Ge they would have to go talk to the people about that!!!

HGTV Designers...

How many of you are addicted to HGTV...Divine Design, Design on a Dime, Color Corrections, Myles of Styles, House Hunter, Hidden Potential, Curb Appeal, Rate my Space... I could go on and on? Well, I need your help.

I have started to make-over my guest room (formerly known as Beth's bedroom).
I know I wanted something modern/contemporary with vibrant colors and a chic feel, so I chose creams, orange and black as the basic colors.

Here is what I have so far, but I need your ideas to finish off this room. Post comments with your suggestions. I will post the finish product once it is done.

I love the contrast with the pillows with the floral the comtemporary design, but keeping with the same color scheme.

Don't like these pictures...I'm looking for something more comtemporary with color to add an additional color to this scheme.

I love the texture of this throw...

I love the lamp but not the shade. This is actually a shade from a lamp in my living room, so I have to get another shade.

Aug 20, 2008...A Bittersweet Day!

BITTER because this is the day we took Tre to college. The day our baby was leaving us to start a new chapter in his life. The day Tre declared his independence. The day we spent many, many, many hours preparing him for. The day that most parent wish would hurry up and get here(especially during those teen years) but are sad when it does finally arrive. Bitter because this is the day Melvin and I become official "Emptynesters"- wait THAT'S SWEEEEET!

Take a glimpse at our life on Aug 20, 2008

Our day started off as most - we had to wake Tre up and get him started. He did a good job of getting most of his things together, but he still had some more packing to do.

We finally got everything loaded in the car and off to BALL STATE we go...

...but not before stopping to get some lunch. Tre's choice- ARBY's

We finally arrived on Ball State Campus in front of Studebaker dorm- Tre's offical home for the next year, 8th floor, room 817.

The move in went very smoothly. There were tons of people to help with guidance and directions and even members of various sororities and fraternities to help unload your car and take things up to your room.

Being on the 8th floor has its pluses...look at the view from his room!

After we got everything wiped off and unpacked, we headed to the bookstore so Tre could get his books. We knew this would be a breeze because during orientation we pre-paid for his books and they told us they would have all his books packed and ready to go, all he would need to do was show his student id.

Here is Melvin and Tre walking to the bookstore. I can only imagine the conversation Melvin was having with Tre! I'm sure it started with Now Son...

We went to Target to pick up a few more items and some snacks, then to dinner at Cheeseburger in Paradise.

We took Tre back to his dorm and said our good-byes, but not before two more pictures.

In parting we reminded Tre of three things...

Nicholas has been a little more cooperative with me while I am trying to take his pictures. The operative word is little. I still have to bribe him with treats.

Here are a few from a recent session:

When we are outside playing Nicholas always tries to go over to my neighbor's house to play on their slide. As he was walking toward their house, every few steps he would turn around and say, "back, back", to let me know he will be back. He took a few more steps and I said come back Nicholas. This time he turned around and said, "theese"! I was laughing so hard, so my picture is blurred, but I still love this one!!!

...and here he is blowing me a kiss bye-bye, with his binky still in his mouth!!!

The Moving Wall...

This past weekend, Melvin and I had the pleasure of seeing the Moving Wall. This is the wall that has all the names of the men and women that died during the Vietnam War. I didn't know what to expect, but didn't expect what I saw. It was truly a moving experience. There were several veterans there that were saddened by the names they saw on the wall. Many were wiping the tears from their eyes, while others let their emotions take over...sobbing as they walked past the thousands of names that's etched on the wall...names of fellow comrades/friends that served with them during the war.

Practice Session... There's Security!

Last week I practiced my photography on my friend Stacy. She is definitely a photographer's dream. She was open to try anything..and I mean anything.

Our shoot started in her back yard with her dog Rodman. Stacy has really cute orange and pink adirondack chairs on here patio, so I thought it would be cute to get a picture of her sitting in one and Rodman in the other one..you know like you see in the magazines. Well, he wasn't having it and a pet photographer I am not! I did, however, manage to get a cute picture of them together.

Our next stop was at a new hotel in Carmel...Renaissance. The decor in this hotel is absolutely beautiful. It's very modern, swanky, classy and colorful. The employees are extremely nice and even took us on a tour! It's definitely a must for anyone looking for a venue that's different from your typical venue.

Our next stop was "downtown" Carmel.

We weren't finished yet. After a trip to McDonald's for drinks, we went to a mansion that has a really cool gate that I have always wanted to get pictures of. Stacy was all for getting her picture taken there...even though it's on private property and I told her of previous stories where I have been kicked off private property. Did I mention she was open to anything.

So off we go...the shoot started off pretty good.

So far, so good, so I decided to really get creative. I asked Stacy to lie on her back and put her feet on the gate. Without hesitation, she did! I took about 2 shots, adjusted my settings, all the while she is lying on the ground with her feet on the gate of a house that's on the market for 20 million dollars. I was trying to go as fast as I could so that we wouldn't get caught by security, but as I turned around, the security car was right behind me.

So I tell Stacy...there's security. She thinks I joking and replied...no it's not. So I tell her again...THERE'S SECURITY- GET YOUR FEET DOWN. At that point we were busted...the guard got out of his car and Stacy off the ground. We explained we were just taking pictures and he was nice enough to let us finish.

Where is Your Nose?

Our little Nicholas never ceases to humor us. For quite some time he has been able to point to the parts of his face/body. We knew at birth we would have a smart little guy on our hands...and no doubt he is!!!

On Sunday afternoon, we played outside with Nicholas. He is sooo busy!! His little feet didn't stop moving the whole time we were out. So in order to get a break Melvin played the "Where is your"... game.

So here we go...

Carnival

Most of the time when I take pictures I focus so much on the technical aspect of photography that I miss out on some special moments. This time I decided to just go and take pictures and not worry about my settings or composition. These are not technically correct, but it's a special time in Nicholas' life that we have pictures to look back on.

On Sunday, Melvin and I met Beth, Lederic and Nicholas at the carnival that's was set up not far from our house.

I have other pictures to post that I took prior to these, but there is one picture posted here that I just truly adore...guess which one?!!!

Nicholas absolutely LOVED riding the train...I think his Pawpaw enjoyed it too!!!

Kalama-ewwwww!!

For the past 3 years, Melvin, Tre and I have gone to Kalamazoo, Michigan in June for a soccer tournament. This year was no different, as this would be Tre's last soccer game. All the parents and guys were really looking forward to this game. We usually all have a great time in Kalamazoo!!!

This year we left Indianapolis around 2:00, Friday afternoon in order to get into Michigan early to take advantage of our time there. We arrived around 5:00, checked in, dropped our luggage off in the room and out we went. Tre went to find the other players on his team and Melvin and I headed downtown to explore the city and take advantage of the beautiful weather.

Much to our surprised... there was an Island Festival going on. We decided to see what it was all about.

There were sooo many food booths we didn't know which one to choose. I decided not to take any chances so I went to bacon wrapped shrimp kabobs with rice from Jammin' Jerks Island Grille! Melvin had Jerk chicken with island rice. We didn't stop there...I also had cheesecake on a stick and a Caribbean soda...it tasted like Mello Yello(remember those)!

The night was still young so we decided to listen to a couple of bands and people watch.

But...before the second band took the stage, my stomach started to rumbling...I had a salty taste in my mouth. I know what I think wasn't about to hap....

Yes, it did... I had to run to the bushes to throw up. All I could hear was someone in the background saying..."EWWWWW, SOMEBODY GIVE HER SOME GUM"!!!
I felt better and did get to enjoy the music of the second band, but not for long. Again I had to go to the bushes. Finally, Melvin and I left and walked back to the hotel, with me making several stops on the way to make a deposit!

As for the soccer game(oh yeah...the reason we went to Kalamazoo), the guys all played really hard, but just could not come away with a victory...they lost all three games(two on Saturday and one on Sunday)!

Awwwww... it's a sad day at the Smith's household. Grandmommie/Momma went back home to Atlanta today. We have such a good time when she visits and this time was NO EXCEPTION. We shared lots of laughter, old stories(remember when...) and long nights just talking. I wish I could just clone her and keep her with us all the time!

She was such a trooper when I would beg her to go outside to let me practice taking pictures. Here are a few:

to Melvin and all the fathers! I'm truly blessed to have such a wonderful husband who is also a GREAT father and PaaawwwwPA(as Nicholas says)!! I hope all the fathers were able to either spend time with their kids or at least talk to them.

Nicholas has been taking swim lessons for the past several weeks. He is one of the best in his class of kids ages 6 months - 24 months.

He started with the basics...kicking

and blowing bubbles!

It wasn't long before he was practicing his backstroke(almost)!

Then...under the water he went...(Why is Beth holding her breath?)!

YAY!!!!

He loved getting a duck each week. This week he got two ducks...

...so he could share one with YOU!!!

Big Boy

How long did you think it would take me to post a picture of Nicholas?! I would love to post his picture everyday, but as soon as he sees I have my camera, he instantly want to become the photographer! He loves to look through the lens and also see a picture of himself on the LCD screen, so I get no where with him.

But Saturday, he was having so much fun with the big boys that he didn't care that I had my camera.

Lil Daryl

On Saturday, Teresa and her family visited us. We had lots of fun and enjoyed spending time with them. Lil Daryl and his friend entertained themselves by playing Guitar Hero and Wii games, before going to Beth and Lederic's house.
Nicholas had a ball playing with the older boys. He thought he could do everything they did.

Of course, I couldn't let them leave before getting some pictures. Here's one of Lil Daryl and one of his friend.

After the Storm...

On Friday, May 30, the eastside of Indianapolis was hit with a tornado. The tornado touched down about a mile from where I live. Many families were left homeless after the storm tore the roof off their homes, uprooted trees and landed them on top of buildings and apartments, and gas pumps were literally tossed across the street. This is the second time in 6 years this area has been hit by a tornado. The last time was in 2002.

My mom and I were at home, while Melvin was still at work and Tre went to a classmate's open house. Thankfully, we were not hurt nor was there any damage to our house. However, that wasn't the case with our car. After the storm passed, Tre was on his way home and drove into what he thought was a small puddle of water, but in fact was a pool of water, in the street. Water entered the car and flooded it. He was able to get out and return to his friends house, but not before calling me with fear in his voice. He said the water was up to his knees.

His friend's father was able to push the car out of the water and brought Tre home. On Saturday, the car would not start at all, but we managed to get it started on Sunday. Melvin used the shop vac to get some of the water out before taking it to the mechanic.

Tonight, my mom and I drove through one of the areas that was hit hard so I could get a few pictures(after Cornelius called to tell me I should go see it). The were several police officers partolling the area, so I didn't get many pictures, but here are a few

On May 24, Tre graduated from Lawrence North High School. Many thanks to all those that supported him throughout his life; either by your prayers, good wishes and/or support. div>
We held an open house last Sunday for him. Thanks to all those that were able to attend the open house and a special thanks to my Mom, Granny, Keith, Roy and Carolyn for taking the time to travel here to Indianapolis to attend the graduation ceremony and/or open house.
It's a tough job for me to get pictures of Tre, but I managed to get a few in his cap and gown.
